London-brigthon Doyennes honnored on the magasine La Vie de l’Auto
On the sidelines of the London-Brighton was an auction where 93% of cars were sold such as this magnificent P & L 10 HP of 1903 sold for 367360 €!
EPOQU’AUTO Lyon, Panhard’s clubs also on La Vie de l’Auto!
In the November 23 issue of Epoqu’auto Lyon, two photos show our stand as well as the Club Panhard & amp; Levassor France, our X45 coupe visibly seduced the journalist and the beach decor of our friends from the CPLF.
LONDON – BRIGHTON, The incredible race !
It’s finish ! Last weekend was the wildest, most improbable, most mythical race that can be seen in these 2010 years.
Imagine nearly 450 cars competing between London and Brighton at the beginning of November (with all that implies for the weather conditions) but the most incredible is that the most recent car entered was to be before January 1, 1905!
Dozens of Darracq, Daimler, Peugeot, De Dion Button, Cadillac, Mercedes, Benz, Leon Bollée, Peugeot, Clement, Decauville, Renault, New Orleans, Mors, and other Pierce …
The mark Doyenne was well represented because no less than 28 (yes you read correctly) Panhard & Levassor were registered at the start of the race.
Two of our members were present:
Neil Burdock, who is also a member of the Panhard Levassor Great-Britain club, organized a special Panhard crossing! Several Panhards after the war (we are not sectarian to the Deans!) Had lined roadside and early in the morning the team was ready to watch the passage of cars.
Tim Summers, also a member of the Doyennes and owner of several cars had, with his friends, engaged 4 cars including a beautiful P & L 5 HP of 1901.
He will tell us his race, a little further.
Let’s go to Neil …
“For the last 12years Panhard et Levassor Club GB has attended the famous “London to Brighton” run celebrating the end of the Parliamentary Act. This Act had forced early drivers of “horseless carriages” to employ a man to walk in front of the vehicle with a red flag in order not to frighten the horses!
We set up our “camp” at 8am, just outside the village of Handcross some 42 miles from the start at Hyde Park Gate, London. The complete distance to Madeira Drive, Brighton being approximately 80 miles. By 9.30 the first cars were passing by us and I was surprised at their speed.
When Panhards are waiting for other Panhards …
The larger Panhards, Mors and Renaults were estimated to be running by at about 35-40MPH despite the stretch of road being uphill for them. I was also impressed how quiet most of the cars were whether propelled by petrol, steam or electricity.
Robert Cleminson’s P & L No 121, barrel of 1902 passes Neil and his friends; Note that the circulation of modern vehicles has not been banned, yet another feature of this extraordinary race!

Baron Irvine Laidlaw’s P & L No 3 takes a break at the Panhard stand”
By mid morning a steady stream of cars had reached our spot and we were delighted to see a Panhard slow down and stop at our station. The car, Reg. No.D1590, is a 1904, 4 cylinder with Centaure engine of 15 Horse Power (CV). It is owned by Irvine Laidlaw- Baron Laidlaw, who was unable to attend and was driven by Phil Stainton, mechanic to His Lordship
This was before he met Mr Royce! He also explained the carburettor is very temperamental and can ice up very easily. It has a leather bellow somewhat on the same system as an SU carburettor (whose inventor, Mr Skinner, was a shoe maker). Perhaps he copied the Panhard!
Having checked a loose fitting on the bonnet hinge and the water level, Phil turned the starting handle and they continued on their way to Brighton. We were fortunate with the day being sunny although there was a cold wind and one can only wonder at the intrepid spirit of those taking part. I believe there were about 420 entrants, although not all of them made it to the finishing line in Brighton”

Tim Summers Our friendly member had 4 friends to drive his cars he had lined up at the start.
Let him speak to tell us this wonderful day!
This year, we were running four veteran cars in the 2017 London to Brighton run, our 1901 Panhard et Levassor 5Hp being the youngest competitor of our cars. The Panhard et Levassor was driven by a friend, Ian Gwynne, and the car has competed in the run over 30 times so far.
Leather and brass !
It smokes and it jostles at the beginning!
Exhaust gas or steam?
Tim Summers our member arriving under the Brighton sun with his Daimler
The Daimler rolled in at 1330 hrs, which for an 1897 car was very good going, and finally the Georges Richard, having fixed their engine issue, crosse the line at 1500 hrs. All cars with a finishers medal and very happy crews!

Inauguration of the place Jean Panhard in Crécy la Chapelle
After Michel Houel, it is another emblematic figure of the city of Crécy-la-Chapelle which was honored. City Council proceeded last weekend (October 22), just after the reopening Mass of St. George’s Church (closed since the floods last year), at the inauguration of the place Jean-Panhard .
The Panhard family is inseparable from the Commune of Crécy-la-Chapelle where it has been present for many years. Jean Panhard (June 12, 1913 – July 16, 2014), a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique, spent most of his career at Panhard & amp; Levassor, dean of car manufacturers founded by René Panhard, his uncle, at the end of the nineteenth century. He joined in 1937 as technical director and left the company in 1981 as president and CEO, “said the town hall. And to continue: “He was also a key figure in the automotive world by presiding the Automobile Club de France, the Chamber of Automobile Manufacturers and the Montreal Motor Show.”
A beautiful victory for the FFVE!

Last October 14 and 15 Panhard’s & levassor shared a stand with the CPLF at Automedon. This was an opportunity for the team who had the opportunity to hold the booth to meet and chat with members of the club who had visited us.
Arnaud Blanc, our president, was pleased to lend his magnificent Dynamic of 1939 for the occasion. It attracted many visitors and raised many questions, particularly concerning the operation of the engine without a valve.
Alongside an ancestor of the same brand, with its fuel cans.
Une autre Panhard rendait encore hommage à la carrosserie française au détour d’un stand.
Finally, a beautiful lounge with a tray of choice and a good atmosphere within the booth of the Doyennes !

Our friend Jean-Jacques Aucher honored on La Vie de l’Auto September 2017
The number 1785 of LVA honored a member of the Deans. Indeed in the series family album, an insert is dedicated to Jean-Jacques Aucher members of the Deans under the title “From one Panhard to the other”
It is a question of the roadpipe of his great-grandfather whose exact type is sought to know. Our friend Jean-Jacques is also pictured next to his superb skiff Panhard X 36 of 1922

Open Day at the Panhard defense factory
Gérard Nayme and some friends were able to go to an open house at the end of June 2017 at the Panhard factory in St Germain Laval a few weeks ago.
It was an opportunity to visit this site, rarely open to visitors, in a small sympathetic procession which included, besides the X 72 of Gérard, a Dyna X, a Junior, two PL 17 and a very rare 1897 wagonette equipped with the engine M2F

Two Panhard in Australia
Our two sympathetic members, John Flemming (X 45) and Colin Kiel (X 46), recently attended a vintage car show near Melbourne. A hundred vehicles were assembled including trucks, cars, motorcycles and stationary steam engines.
It was the first time that our two Australian Panhards were side by side for the pleasure of the visitors not accustomed to see cars of the dean mark.
Congratulations to our two friends, waiting to be joined by Roger Savage who restores an X 72 …
Avignon Motor Festival, Les Doyennes were there …
On 24th, 25th and 26th of March, the traditional Motor Festival was held in Avignon, where passengers of ancient mechanics and locomotion gathered every year. Indeed there are for all tastes: luxury cars or popular, military vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, miniatures, not to mention the stock exchange and an auction on Sunday.
A beautiful lineup of Juvaquatre !
Despite a sullen weather, the exchange has kept its promises
A Hispano-Suiza auction that has little airs of panning.
Being beautiful like a truck, that’s it …
If the Deans did not have a stand, it was an opportunity for the “Southern” members (but not that!) To meet and for some to meet for the first time.
Alfred Morenas and Gilbert Blossin members of the Deans recently had come to neighbors. It was an opportunity to meet Gérard Nayme, who had come from Saint-Etienne with other panhardists, and Gilles Vayre from Narbonne.
We also met Stéphane Leminier, who was also a member of the deans and animated the Peugeot 604 booth.
The meal was taken together in the van of Gilbert, in a good atmosphere that the weather fails to start …
Rendez-vous was taken for next year hoping that other members will join this friendly team …
